Welcome to Workways
Workways provides information, advice and practical assistance to enable easier access to learning and work. If mental health is an issue in finding or maintaining employment, training, learning opportunities and voluntary work, then Workways may be able to help.
Workways is for...
People supported in their mental health by their GP We are available to people living in Exeter and East Devon and can offer a limited service to those in Mid Devon. To arrange an appointment, download an application form or contact us. Alternatively Discover the Journey to Learning & Work on this site and take advantage of our self-assessment facility.
Employers and Learning & Work Organisations Workways supports employers, has over 30 Affiliated Organisations and holds a wide range of information on local learning and work services.
Carers, health and social care professionals... ... and anyone else who may find the service helpful.
Workways provides...
Advice, information and practical support This focuses on helping people find and remain in employment, training, learning opportunities and voluntary work. After receiving an application form, an appointment will be arranged. This informal discussion talks about previous experience and training, explore a person's situation as it is now and, led by the individual's own ideas (helping to generate them if necessary), to decide on the next best steps towards learning or work. Further appointments are available as required.
Workways is available to provide as much or as little support and assistance as is required, for as short or as long a time as necessary. It is a very flexible service and very much geared towards to the needs of the individual. We can provide ongoing 1:1 support with a wide range of issues including vacancy and education/training searches, completing job, course and benefit application forms, CVs, interviews, visiting Colleges or other learning and work organisations, support in the place of work or learning, mediation with employers - the list is potentially endless. We also provide free access to learning and work-related websites, have copies of vacancy bulletins, local newspaper job adverts and up to date Jobcentre Plus vacancies.
Groups provide additional practical help to help people move forward in to education & learning, employment, training and voluntary work together with programmes of discussion topics and guest speakers.
Workways is also available to assist local learning and work organisations in supporting their clients and also to provide support for employers in considering recruitment, retention and redeployment issues.
We also facilitate a UK-wide initiative, MINDFUL EMPLOYER® which offers easier access to information and support for employers in recruiting and retaining staff who experience mental ill health. Through our work in conjunction with the University of Exeter's Disability Resource Centre support for students is provided. We also support SWEMPNET, which encourages good practice in promoting the employment of people with mental health needs through the sharing of information through a network of practitioners throughout the South West. We are also a partner organisation with A4e in the delivery of the Pathways to Work programme and Pluss in the delivery of Workstep.
Workways doesn't...
Provide learning and work activities itself but works closely with organisations who do. We are not a counselling service nor do we provide therapy.
