Supporting Employers ® Stress, depression and anxiety are the cause of more working days lost than any other work-related illness (Health & Safety Statistics Highlights 2003/04). Research suggests that 1 in 6 employees will experience some kind of mental health problem in the course of a year – most commonly harmful levels of stress, anxiety and depressive conditions. WorkWAYS can assist with issues which have arisen because of mental health difficulties encountered by employees, provide support for managers, colleagues, HR/Personnel and Occupational Health, facilitate access to additional support and funding and help in recruitment and retention matters. Working with a range of small, medium and large employers, we facilitate MINDFUL EMPLOYER, a mental health awareness and enabling initiative for, and led by, employers with a focus on providing information, training, support and sharing national and local good practice. Use the site's employer discussion forum to share experiences, good practice and problematical issues with other employers. Resources for employers There is a wealth of information on the MINDFUL EMPLOYER website - often finding the right information can time-consuming so we hope that by having it all in one place will be helpful.
Also go to local learning and work organisations and employment agencies to find out about other agencies who can assist employers.
Financial and other support for employers is available through the Access to Work scheme provided by Jobcentre Plus. Contact the Access to Work Advisor via your local Jobcentre Plus office or Disability Employment Advisers for more information.
