Job vacancies

Sources of job advertisements are numerous, particularly in newspapers and on the internet. Many employers now advertise and make application possible online - a few of our local major employers are listed below. Also, contact Jobcentre Plus and employment agencies in Exeter - many agencies offer permanent as well as temporary positions, full-time, part-time and casual jobs: they do not charge jobseekers for the assistance they provide.

Speculative approaches to employers are also worthwhile by sending a CV with a covering letter. Because of the increasing emphasis on equal opportunities, employers, particularly the larger ones, may advise that their vacancies will be advertised and you'll need to apply in the normal way but an initial approach is always worth a try. Newspapers

Local, regional and national newspapers remain a very good source of job advertisements. The Express & Echo, Exeter's daily paper publishes a jobs section on Wednesdays. The Western Morning News, the regional newspaper for Devon & Cornwall publishes job ads on Thursdays. Jobs in both newspapers are available online at jobs.thisisdevon.co.uk.

Some of the nationals publish particular types of jobs on particular days and ads are also available online, for example:

The Daily Telegraph

The Guardian

The Independent

The Times

There are also many specialist journals and publications for particular occupational groups, for example:

Nursing Times - for nursing and healthcare jobs in the UK
